skysurf: competition

Skysurfing at competition level is a team discipline. Each team consists of two athletes: a Skysurfer and a camera flyer. The surfer rides a specially designed board, allowing him to surf through the air while performing a number of demanding figures such as sliding, spinning, and twisting. The camera flyers record the performance with a helmet-mounted camcorder. They contribute to the team's overall score by interacting with the Skysurfer using their own creative and athletic skills. Judges on the ground score the team's video for technical and performance skills.

The team’s performance begins at an altitude of 13,000 feet. During the 70-second freefall, both members are falling vertically at about 110-130 mph, enabling them to surf the ultimate wave - the sky.
